Peter says were it not for Yale he would be selling shirts. He compares the exhilaration of architecture school to the thrill of skiing, where the experience raises the hair on the back of your neck.

Peter wants to be remembered as an ethical, moral person. As an architect, he ruefully recalls saying in the documentary Five Years in the Life, "I thought I would be more famous than I am." With respect to a legacy he has a lot of students who like him and a small number of very good buildings. He hopes to leave a legacy with this current research into engineered wood and with a redefinition of the architect as a citizen in a political, cultural, urban, climate-challenged world.
